Then: The epitome of classic. When Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn sport the pointy specs in the 50s and 60s, they instantly become an icon of sophistication and style. 

Somehow, throughout the years, the Cat-Eye lost its flirtiness and took on nerdiness, as I found seeing old photos of my mother when she was in high school. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to post said photos, but perhaps Ms. Blankenship, Don Draper’s deceased assistant from Mad Men, can best illustrate my point:

Now: Mad Men is certainly guilty of feeding our culture’s current nostalgia (or obsession) with 60s fashion, and thankfully, the Cat-Eye is having a comeback. Last year, when I was searching for a new pair of glasses myself, I secretly wanted some Cat-Eyes but ended up going with a much watered down version. If I just waited for the trend to pick up some steam, you’d probably find me in frames like these:
